The Occoneechee-Orange Speedway is the site of the Hillsborough Historic Auto Show, an annual event that takes place at the end of August each year. Arriving early at this event insures ‘close’ parking and few visitors, but too early and one could miss some very beautiful antiques. As the morning and day progresses they seem to flow into the large open field with synchronistic form; as if summoned by clarion call. Spectators surround each model with expressions of awe and wonderment. Shiny chrome and flawless paint demand the attention of each passerby. These vehicles offer a glimpse into the past and a sense of nostalgic connection; evoking very real memories for some and very real fantasies of ownership for others. Open hoods allow a peek into the immaculate powerhouses which have been maintained with meticulous care and attention to detail. Any visitor could easily find themselves lost in time in a very real sense as well being spectators into the history and development of the automobile. A suggestion to wear loose, light clothing during the warm-to-hot day is well heeded along with sunscreen and some bottled water. Parking is either near and within walking distance or satellite with numerous shuttles back and forth to the event.

The above ‘photograph’ is a combination of an image I had plus a scanned copy of some textured paper I had laying around. The leaves above the paper were simply copied to a new layer using the pen tool (converted to a selection) and placed above the textured paper.

Night Shot

Night Shot - Downtown Durham, NC - Feb 2010

I shot this photograph of downtown Durham, NC last night during a full-moon. I didn’t have a tripod with me so I did some ‘propping’ and settled on 6.0 seconds @ f/4.0, ISO 100 @ 18mm. Haven’t done much night time shooting, but next time I’ll make sure I have my tripod and use a smaller aperture. I kept it at ISO 100 ’cause I wanted to minimize the noise; interesting colors….hmm, blue sky….dunno.
